List of automation actions

Here is a list of actions that can be used in automations created in Hue Essentials:

Activate scene

This action will activate a scene in a group. First create a scene, then you can add this action.
When the Toggle option is disabled, the action will always activate the scene. With the Toggle option enabled, the action will switch between the scene and lights off.
A custom fade time can be set.

Start effect

Start an Effect that you created in Hue Essentials in a group. Make sure the effect was saved to the bridge before using this action. See for more information about the effects: How to use the Effect Creator?

Stop effect

Stop any effects created in Hue Essentials that are running on the bridge. Note that this will not stop effects that are running from the phone.

Stop entertainment program

Stop any entertainment programs that are running. This will stop all entertainment programs in all apps. That includes the Hue Essentials programs like Dance Sensation and also other apps like Hue Sync.

Set group/light color

Change the color of your group or light. With this action you can do the following:

  • Color - switch on your lights to a selected color and brightness.
  • Increase color temperature - this will increase the color temperature by the configured value.
  • Decrease color temperature - this will decrease the color temperature by the configured value.
  • Stop color temperature change - this will stop a current color temperature change which is in progress.

A custom fade time can be selected.

Set group/light brightness

Change the brightness of your group or light. With this action you can do the following:

  • Set fixed brightness - use this action to switch on your lights to a certain brightness percentage.
  • Increase brightness - use this to increase the current brightness by a certain percentage. This will only change the brightness of lights that are already on
  • Decrease brightness - use this to decrease the current brightness by a certain percentage. This will only change the brightness of lights that are already on
  • Stop brightness change - this will stop a current brightness change (increase/decrease) with a long fade time which is in progress.

The Switch on option can be used to decide whether the lights should switch on. If enabled, lights will always switch on. If disabled, the brightness will only be changed of lights that are already on.

A custom fade time can be selected.

Toggle group/light

Use this action to switch on, switch off, or toggle your lights.

A custom fade time can be selected.

Blink group/light

Use this action to blink your lights once.

Enable the Repeat option if you want the lights to keep blinking. To stop blinking the lights, add another blink action with the state set to Stop.

Toggle sensor

Use this action to switch on, switch off, or toggle a sensor. For example a Hue Motion Sensor. See for more information: Motion sensor activate/deactivate?

Cancel motion sensor actions

The action “cancel motion sensor actions” is intended for those situations when you want to temporarily suppress a motion response when there is no movement. See for more information: How to use "Cancel Motion Sensor Actions"

Wait

Use this action to add a delay between actions. This could be useful if you would like to switch on a light, and switch it off after a configured delay. Or if you want to create a running light.

Start automation

Use this action to start another automation from this automation.

First you need to create an automation with an External event and save it. Configure the conditions and actions however you want. After saving, you can select it here. See for more information: Automation that can be triggered externally

Stop automation

Use this action to stop another automation (that is currently running) from this automation.

First you need to create an automation with a Wait action and save it. Automations with wait actions are not completed instantaneously, so they can be stopped earlier using this action.
