Help! My Philips Hue lights keep turning on randomly. I’m at my breaking point

I’m reaching out because I’ve hit rock bottom with my Philips Hue setup. I’ve been using Hue for about 5–6 years now. What started as a single bulb has grown into a full setup: 10 bulbs, 2 TV light strips, 1 Hue Go, and a 2-pack Hue Play bar set. They’re spread out across different rooms with their own environments and scenes.

Lately, they’ve started turning on by themselves…completely at random, even in the middle of the night. It’s driving me crazy.

Here’s what I’ve tried so far:

  • Replaced my Hue Bridge with a brand new one
  • Deleted all rooms and scenes, then re-added each device manually
  • Connected the new bridge directly from my AT&T router into my Obi router
  • Verified that all lights and the bridge are up to date

Despite all this, the problem still happens. I’m desperate, has anyone experienced something similar or have any idea what else I can try?

I have also posted this on Reddit, again, I am desperate.

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

Same thing happened to me

Check your Alexa app.

There’s an option called “Away Lighting” - be sure to toggle it off.

And make sure you click the three dots next to term “Away Lighting” and click on “Lights Alexa Can Control” and uncheck everything.

“Away Lighting” is a function that turns different lights on and off to make it look like someone is home.

I never turned it on,; it must have just automatically defaulted to “on” during an update.

Mine is doing this too. I don’t use Alexa. I use Apple home but nothing else. It’s blinding when I am trying to sleep and it just turns on to full brightness. I uninstalled the bulb until there’s an answer.

  • Check automations/routines** in the Hue app, Alexa, Google Home, etc.
  • Motion sensors or switches** might be triggering them.
  • Power flickers?** Set “Power-on behavior” in Hue app to prevent lights from turning on after outages.
  • Third-party apps* (IFTTT, SmartThings) could be the cause.
  • Change your Hue account password just in case someone else has access.

Check for faulty schedules power glitches or app automations reset if needed.
