Software update failed with "checkforupdate - Portal connection required"

Hi,

I’ve a brand new Philips Hue Bridge. I’m using Hue Essentials v2.2.0 on Android.

The network is working, I can ping my bridge. However, the 3rd light (internet) blinks all the time.

Firmware on my Hue Bridge is dated from August 3, 2020, 1940042020
(For information only, Current Firmware (as of 09/20/2023) is dated from August 16, 2023, 1959194030)

My network (WIFI or cable) is working fine on my computer.

When I try Software update (Updates provided by Philips), I receive the following error message when I click on “Check for updates”:
Unexpected answer from the bridge. Please try again later.
12 - /config/swupdate2/checkforupdate - Portal connection required

Any idea would be appreciated.

Best regards,

Patrick

same problem here. I have a BSB002 with FW 1948086000.

Well, I am not alone even if I feel sorry for this issue, too!

Hi,

The solution was to upgrade the firmware with Philips Hue App (the official one).

Now, the firmware for this bridge is 1960062030. I have all the 3 leds working.

https://discovery.meethue.com/ is also working, I mean, I can see my bridge.

Hue Essentials (non-Philips app) was able to update all the lights (software version: 1.104.2) and my dimmer switch (software version: 2.45.2_hF4400CA). This Hue Essentials app rocks!

It was NOT an issue with networking, just the out-of-the-box firmware was too old to be able to be configured without the upgrade.

Best regards,

Patrick
