I’ve a brand new Philips Hue Bridge. I’m using Hue Essentials v2.2.0 on Android.
The network is working, I can ping my bridge. However, the 3rd light (internet) blinks all the time.
Firmware on my Hue Bridge is dated from August 3, 2020, 1940042020
(For information only, Current Firmware (as of 09/20/2023) is dated from August 16, 2023, 1959194030)
My network (WIFI or cable) is working fine on my computer.
When I try Software update (Updates provided by Philips), I receive the following error message when I click on “Check for updates”:
Unexpected answer from the bridge. Please try again later.
12 - /config/swupdate2/checkforupdate - Portal connection required
Hue Essentials (non-Philips app) was able to update all the lights (software version: 1.104.2) and my dimmer switch (software version: 2.45.2_hF4400CA). This Hue Essentials app rocks!
It was NOT an issue with networking, just the out-of-the-box firmware was too old to be able to be configured without the upgrade.
When you encounter this error message, it means your bridge firmware is too old to be updated from Hue Essentials. Unfortunately, you need to do a one-time update using the official Hue App. Afterwards, new features will be available in Hue Essentials. The error message will be improved in the next app update.
@Thomas to provide a better error message in the app, please note that I received the same error message in the Hue Essentials app and could solve it by restarting the bridge. (Original Hue app did not work as well before that)
