My Dimmer Switch’s power button’s function is set to Time of Day, ad Smart On/Off function is set to disabled in Hue, but it still acts like it’s enabled. It cycles between time of day settings. I want it to turn off lights by disabling it. I tried resetting the device but it won’t help.
I’m having the same problem. I have two new-style dimmer switches with the Hue button.
The one I’ve had for ages: the power button just toggles on and off. That’s what I want.
The one I just bought can do either:
Smart On/Off Disabled: cycles between scenes, can never turn off the lights.
Smart On/Off Enabled: cycled between scenes. If I want to turn off I have to wait 5 seconds since I last pressed it, which is annoying.
Is there a way to keep the time of day mode but have the power button just toggle? If I want to cycle scenes that’s what the Hue button is for.
I’m having the same issue.
hey all, this post is old but it did appear in some google results and i want to make sure that it gets found.
This behavior can be changed (reverted to how the old on/off switches work) by going to Settings > Accessories > tapping on your new style dimmer switches.
Make sure you have the On/Off button selected as this is the button you’re making the changes to.
I have “Button controls…” set to Lights with the room or set of lights you wish to control.
Then down in Behavior, tap on “Press”, “Press” again to set the behavior (“What should happen when you press the on button”), tap on Scene Cycle. I believe this defaults to “time-based light”.
then your Behavior section should change. Tap the very top one for “First press”, then you should see “Last on state” under Suggestions. It’s got the arrow turning to point the other direction. Tap Done and Done to save those changes. You can either remove all of the other press behaviors or leave it as is.
And finally, i have “Smart on/off” enabled at the bottom.
After all of those changes, the new switches work exactly like the old ones. That is to say, when your lights are off and you tap the on/off button, they turn on to the last scene or custom light configurations you set it to you set it to. Even if i set a scene early on but change the color or brightness of a specific lamp later, that on behavior will show exactly what you last had set.
If you press it again shortly after turning it on, it’ll cycle the scenes you had set above.
When the button hasn’t been pressed in a couple of seconds and you press it, it will turn your lights off.
Thank you for posting this @marknine. I can confirm it works.
In case anyone else comes across this post, the solutino works for “Single scene” as well as “Scene Cycle”. The key is to set Behavior to “Last On State”, which IMO is easy to miss as most of the other settings are around specific scenes (e.g. “Energize”, “Relax”, “Read”) or lighting settings (“Bright”).
