Feature Request: Expose Tap Dial Switch rotation events to Apple Home (via Hue Bridge)
Summary
Please expose the rotation events of the Philips Hue Tap Dial Switch (RDM002) through the Hue Bridge’s Apple Home / Matter interface.
Currently, only the four button presses are visible in Apple HomeKit, while the physical rotary dial is handled exclusively inside the Hue ecosystem for light dimming.
Why it matters
• The hardware already reports granular rotation data (clockwise / counter-clockwise with speed) via Zigbee → Bridge.
• Users could then use the dial as a true analog control for other HomeKit accessories (Sonos volume, blinds, thermostat set-points, scene intensity, etc.).
• Exposing those events aligns with Hue’s goal of “deep HomeKit integration for all Hue accessories.”
Requested behavior
• Publish rotation as separate HomeKit characteristic(s):
– Rotate Clockwise / Rotate Counter-Clockwise events, ideally with delta or speed metadata.
• Keep existing Hue-local button behavior intact.
• Optional: toggle in Hue app → “Expose dial rotation to HomeKit.”
Benefits
• Dramatically expands Tap Dial usefulness without new hardware.
• Keeps Hue Bridge as the single integration point for Apple Home.
• Reduces need for Homebridge/Home Assistant workarounds.
References / community demand
• Multiple threads in Home Assistant and Hue forums request this feature.
• Rotation data is fully accessible via ZHA / zigbee2mqtt, proving the firmware already emits it.
Environment
Hue Bridge firmware ≥ 1.60.x
